Installation is simple, just load the sim card on the modem, and plug it to USB port on your PC/laptop. It will auto detect, and install driver & software. The ZTE modem is preloaded with all the mobile broadband settings for Maxis, Digi, Celcom & U Mobile, where the default settings is goes to Celcom. We need to change to U Mobile setting.

So far, in my house, the best signal area is my ground floor living room (1-2 bars) & upper floor master bedroom (2-4 bars). My computer room located ground floor totally no signal at all…T_T

Anyway, even only 1-2 bar of weak signal, the connection speed is still acceptable, can reach more than 1Mbps,  no problem watching online streaming video such as PPstream or PPlive.

I’ve also tried  downloading large file, speed is OK.

Overall, U Mobile broadband is not bad, fast connection speed, unlimited usage for only RM68 per month, the cheapest compare to others. Except signal not so good on my house.

PS: not sure whether the unlimited usage is true or not…

Anyway, in case u need to replace the 1GB storage to higher capacity, u need to install the OS. Below is the guide of doing a clean installation on new storage card.

Resources needed:

Neonode N2 OS  and manual, where u can download at www.neonode.com.

First, turn off your N2 and connect it to your PC through the USB cable, backup all your files.

*It will act like a removable drive.

Second, run the Nero.exe program. Click “Change”.

Select your desire languages.

Then, click “Advance”. U can see there are 2 option, “clean installation” and “Format SD”. For upgrade OS only, choose “clean installation”. Whereas for new storage card, click “Format SD”. After formatted SD, u need to run the Nero.exe again for installation.

Once finished copied the files to your N2, your N2 will start installing the OS.

To setup this wireless router modem is simple. Plug in everything in the box and power ON the device.

One all the LED on the device are ON, open a browser and type “192.168.1.1″ to enter Riger’s modem configuration.

The default username & password is “tmuser”.

Once Login, Enter your streamyx ID & password, edit the SSID as u prefer, tick the enable security to lauch the WEP with 13 character of keys. Then click save/reboot button to reboot the device and save the settings.

PS: Even the setup is simple, but i found out that after 1st time of save settings, when u want to edit again, it is very hard to save the settings… Perhaps this is an issue on Riger product…So, try to make sure u key in all the correct settings on first attempt.

Since netbook do not has optical drive, thus we need to make the usb drive to become bootable similar to the bootable window xp cd ( Cannot just copy all the files on cd to usb drive…). Tools that we required:

• USB flash drive with more than 1GB storage
• Window XP installation CD
• WinSetupFromUSB
• Window XP drivers for netbook

1. Preparations

Download & install WinSetupFromUSB. Default installation path is C:\WinSetupFromUSB. Create a new folder with the name WINXPCD in the root directory of drive C:\ and copy all files from your Windows XP Setup CD into this folder.

2. Create bootable USB flash drive

Since the flash drive is not formatted, it cannot be detected. So, click RMPresUSB to format the disk.

After format, the disk will be detected.

Select the Source file to the folder that contains the setup file. Path is C:\WINXPCD

Then click GO button and to copy all the windows setup file to the usb drive.

3. Install Window XP on netbook

Plug the usb flash drive on netbook, power on the machine. Normally netbook is default to boot from usb media. If not, then u need to go to bios setting and set it.

After booting from USB Flash Drive, the following menu should be displayed:

• Windows XP/2000/2003 Setup – First and Second parts

Just ignore it, and it will continue to boot similar to window xp installation cd. Just follow the on screen instruction to install window xp.

*Compare to window xp cd, copy setup files progress is slower, perhaps due to usb drive.

After finish copied files, machine will restart and during bootint Second part of XP Home Edition setup+Start Windows for first time is already selected. Press Enter or wait 10 seconds to Start Windows for the first time. The Windows installation process will be finished and finally the Windows Desktop will appear. Then it will start installing Window XP.

1. Insert bootable window xp cd and restart pc. *Make sure 1st boot device is cd/dvdrom, not hard disk.

It will automatic installing driver, once finished, u will reach the setup menu. Press R is to enter recovery console, so  we just press Enter to continue installation.

Once Press Enter, u will reach a licensing agreement page, just press F8 to continue.

Then u will reach partitioning page. U can create few partition as u likes, but can only install in 1 partition ( C:\ ). To create partition, just press “C”, u no need to create, just press “Enter”. Due to nowadays hard disk space is very big, so is better to create few partitions. Normally, 60-80GB is enough for window xp OS and softwares. The rest of space can be used as backup.

Once finish create partitions, select one partition by pressing ENTER to install window xp. U will be lead to formatting that partition.

We need to select NTFS file system. Press Enter and it will start format and copy necessary files for installation.

Once finish copying, it will auto reboot and start installation.

During installation, regional & language option will pop out. Click Details–>Languages–>tick the Install Files for East Asian Languages. This will install chinese, korean and japanese input languages

Then u will proceed to Personalization of your Window.

After that, u will be asked for your product key.

Once inserted product key, u can setup your computer name and administrator password.

For networking settings, u click “typical”.

After installation, it will reboot again and u will be able to login to your window xp desktop.

To use the scan feature, we just need to run the Xsane Image Scanning Program. We just need to click the Scan button, and the preview of image will be available.

It is simple and easier to scan and print using HP F300 AIO printer through Ubuntu Jaunty.

1. Login to modem configuration. By default, user name & password are “tmadmin”.

2. Click on “SmartConfig”, select operation mode, “PPPoE/auto dial” or “bridge/manual dial”, enter your streamyx user name & password, click “submit”.

3. Below screen will be directed, click “submit” again.

4. That’s all, now u just need to wait for the connection.

Unlike others modem, Riger use different kind of status LED.

Data: Indicates PPPoE connection *Not available for bridge mode (Green LED)
PC: Indicates network connection (Green LED)

1. Open browser, type “192.168.1.1″ to enter modem configuration mode. User name & password will be ask, for default, both also “admin”.

2. Click on “WAN”, fill in below settings and save it.

3. Setup SSID for the wireless name if u do not like the default name.

4. Lock your wireless with WEP or WPA.
