My Nvidia 8500GT VGA Fan Broken

After 2 years plus using this MSI Nvidia 8500GT graphic card, finally is sick, where the VGA fan is broken.

Luckily my motherboard has on-board video, temporary i’ve removed the graphic card, and use the built in display. This is the advantage of buying a motherboard with built in display, in case anything happen to graphic card, u can still use your PC.

Tomorrow need to look for new VGA fan, see whether this card can run or not…

Compaq Presario C748TU Window XP Drivers

HP-Compaq has a model of laptop – Presario C748TU which is specifically designed for Windows Vista. Thus, they do not provide drivers for Windows XP along with the package. You will have to download and install it seperately. However, if you try to install driver for Windows XP, you might face compatibility issues, and hardly to download the drivers.

This model of Presario has an audio controller that supports the high definition audio. You need to have Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio installed on the computer before installing the audio driver.

My First LCD Monitor

I just brought my first LCD monitor today at SNS Network, where they’re having 10th anniversary discount sales. The model is HP Compaq W185q.

Setup is very simple, just plug and play.

Ta da…. This is my LCD monitor… haha

This LCD is 18.5″ wide screen, support resolution up to 1366×768, comes with VGA & DVI port, 600:1 contrast ratio, 200nits brightness, 5ms response time, and built in speaker.

Unbox Dell Inspiron Mini 12

Finally, after 5 working days waiting for my DELL Inspiron Mini 12 netbook, finally it arrived. I purchased it through DELL online store, simple & convenience.

The box is very small.

Once opened the box, there is an plastic cover on top of the netbook, whereas the netbook is wrapped with plastic bag.

Here come my pearl white netbook. *Color is fixed… cannot customized, but i like this color also.

Since this is netbook, nothing can be changed or upgraded, except the battery.

It come bundles with lot of softwares and drivers cd… *I wonder how to use it without optical drive on the netbook? Luckily i still have desktop…

First time switch on the netbook, we need to setup the Vista Home Basic.

Too bad this netbook is equipped with Vista, not Window XP. Because only 1GB of memory, memory consumption is very high in Vista. Once get inside Vista, the occupied memory is always above 800MB… After uninstall uncessary features and softwares such as Dell Dock, Vista Theme, Mcafree Security and bla..bla..bla… Then only the occupied memory level drop to 650MB…

Overall, this netbook is very good, except a bit slow when running Vista. *Especially the boot time, more than 1 minute…

My review:

Pros: Lightweight, bigger screen (12.1″), low price ( RM1299 after discount ), 3 cells battery can last more than 2.5 hours.

Cons: Few keys too small, speaker sound too soft, no indicators for HDD activity.

I’m going to install Xbuntu in this netbook. See whether Xbuntu will run better than Vista or not. Stay tune…

Finally, my LG DVDRW is officially retired after 4 years plus. So, i brought a LITE ON SATA iHAS322 DVDRW to replace it.
