Previously one of my Seagate 40GB IDE hardisk used on external drive suddenly blown away. Then i sent the hardisk for RMA claim due to still in warranty period. To my surprise, i sent through Skynet Courier on Monday evening. On Friday morning, i’ve received call from UPS courier man asked for my address. Wow, very fast services. Less than one week, i received another certified repaired hardisk.
We can see that for repaired/reconditioned hard disk, under the Seagate logo contains “Certified Repaired HDD”. For new hard disk, it do not has such wording. Therefore, from the HDD surface we can know whether the HDD is new or reconditioned. Recon HDD always used on custom external HDD. My brother is one of the victim… He brought a custom external 500GB drive at China… I couldn’t check the warranty status at all. Hence, this is one of the method where we can check the HDD condition without checking warranty status online.
Due to my careless handling, i’ve dropped my V3i and broke the front screen.
Then i search through internet and found that the front screen can be replaced. 1 whole set of front , main and VGA screen only RM13 including shipping. Before that, i’ve asked hand phone shop to repair, they need to charge RM26 for only the front screen. Wah… Lastly, i decide to do it my own… hehe
To replace the front screen is very simple, just take out the broken screen and paste the new screen, that’s all.
Now my V3i screen looks like new set… haha ( *Do not see the scratches casing )
Install hard disk is very simple. There are few steps you need to take depending on whether is single drive, or additional drive sharing same IDE cable.
Setting Jumpers
The first thing you need to do before installing a hard drive is to decide whether you want it to be a primary or secondary, master or slave, based on the other IDE devices that are or will be installed in the machine. Then, make sure the jumpers are set correctly for master, slave, or cable select. This is based on your IDE cable also.
For example, if the hardisk is connected to Master of IDE cable, then u can set your hardisk jumper to Single/Master. If your add on hard disk connected to slave of IDE cable, then u can set the jumper to slave.
* Jumper settings for different brand of hard disk is vary.
Cable Select is a setting that allows the slave or master condition to be determined by which connector on the ribbon cable the EIDE device is connected to. The cable and motherboard or IDE controller must support cable select in order to use it. Cables that do support cable select have three different colored connectors: black at one end for master, gray in the middle for slave, and blue at the other end for the motherboard. Other cables with three connectors might support cable select. If you have two EIDE devices on one channel (primary or secondary), both or neither must be set to cable select. That is, you can’t mix cable select and master or slave jumper settings on the same channel. Jumper settings are usually displayed on the drive label. If not, go to the drive manufacturer’s Web site.
Above rules apply to optical drive also, such as combo drive, DVDRW, CDRW and etc. For example, when u want to connected a DVD-RW and a CD-RW using same IDE cable, we can set Master for DVD-RW while Slave for CD-RW.
If your Window XP show each opened program or task in the taskbar twice where one is on the left and and other is on the right of the taskbar, this might be caused by taskbar problem.
Add memory is very simple for laptop, with just few steps, dummies also can do it by without relying on technician and save additional charges.
Below shows few video clips on how to add/remove memory from different brand of laptop. Normally we can see that some memory just placed behind the laptop, some is underneath the keyboard…Due to different laptop got its different design, user are advised to read your laptop manual or online resources to confirm your memory compartment.
