DIY External Hardisk
Published February 4th, 2008 in Hardwares Zones, Installation Guides, Tips & Tricks. We can see that plenty of external hadisk/storage available at market. Such as MAXTOR One Touch, SEAGATE FreeAgent and etc. But it normally a bit costly … For those having extra hardisk ( IDE ) , u can easy changes it to be external.
To DIY our own, is very simple.
Purchase a hardisk enclosure and standby a extra IDE hardisk

Front of the casing

Back of the casing

Connect IDE cable between the card and the hardisk

Front of the casing

Locked the hardisk and connect the power cable. Assemble back the casing , power the hardisk, plugin usb cable to your pc, and your system will detect your IDE hardisk as an external drive.
U can save some money and utilize your extra IDE hardisk. But compare to those external hardisk which is more mobility and more features, this way will be a bit clumsy, because u need to carry the power adapter…

I’ve one hard disk enclosure same as yours.
Also, I just bought a new 500GB external storage recently.
