Streamyx Line Condition

How do we know whether our Streamyx line condition is ok or poor ?

Actually we can know it from our modem. Most of the router modem allow user to login to the modem setting by typing the default gateway on browser and login to modem web config. Inside there we can check our line status.

Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
> 20dB and below is outstanding
> 20dB-30dB is excellent
> 30dB-40dB is very good
> 40dB-50dB is good
> 50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
> 60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

SN Margin (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is the lowest dB manufactures specify for modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving* can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
> 6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
> 7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
> 11dB-20dB is good with no sync problems
> 20dB-28dB is excellent
> 29dB or above is outstanding

On Screen Keyboard

In Window xp, there is a built in features called “On Screen Keyboard “.

This on screen keyboard is very useful when our keyboard is faulty, and we urgently need to type…

We can temporary use this tool to type until we replace another keyboard.

Once open, below screen will appear on our desktop.

Then we just need to use mouse to point and click the key that we want to type. That’s all.

Therefore, we no need to keep spare keyboard, what we need is only spare mouse…. haha

Mobile Meter

MobileMeter is a system monitoring utility designed for laptop PCs running under the Windows environment. It can show the following information.

  • CPU clock
  • CPU temperature
  • Battery charge/discharge rate

Desktop PCs are usually designed to allow the OS to directly read the sensor values, but this is not true in most laptop PCs. Mobilemeter may be able to read the temperature even in such laptop PCs.

Softwares needed in our PC ( Freewares )

For window user, we cannot escape from reformat our pc regularly… haha… Why ? Because after certain time of using, a lot of problem will arise, such as system slow, error code pop up, and etc… Although we can take time to solve all the problem, but the fastest and easier way is to reformat the hardisk, and install a fresh new OS.

After format and install OS and hardwares drivers, we come to the part of installing softwares or programs in our system. Even though i’m a home user, but i tend to use freewares rather than cracked sharewares. Why ? Because cracked sharewares are not safe, many contains virus, trojan, adwares and etc.

Here i will share with u guys some freewares that i often use in my system. Some of them might be only free for home user only, kindly take note. I will only stick to the compulsory one only… hehe. Below i listed down those freewares that i will install to my machine every time i reinstall my window.
