Outlook Express - Email Backup & Restore

Other than using software, we can also back up the emails messages stored in a specified folder in Outlook Express buy just copy the database folder storing the messages.

BACKUP

1. Open Outlook Express

2. Click on “Tool” and select “option ”



3. Click on “Maintenance” tab and “store folder”.



4. On next window, keep pressing tab key until all the words in the text box is highlighted. This is the location of the folder. Copy the highlighted text.



5. Click “Start” and select “run”. Paste the location of the folder inside and press “Enter” or click on “OK”.

6. Then you will see the file stored inside the folder. Here u can copy the entire folder or selected files.


RESTORE

To restore back your files, just copy & paste it inside the folder.

*Keep in mind that if you overwrite your existing Outlook Express folder with your backup folder, any new data since the time of the backup will be deleted. If you have recent data that is not on the backup copy and you don’t want to loose the recent data, then you can use the “Import” command to add data instead of overwriting data.

1. Open Outlook Express, go to “File” –> “import”, select the specific database that you want to restore.



2. Select the program your backup files were created from. For example, we are simply restoring backup files from the same program and would choose “Microsoft Outlook Express 6″.



3. Select “import mail form an OE6 store directory”



4. Click “browse” when asked the location



5. Browse to the location of your backup folder



6. Select “all folder” and click “Next”.



7. Click “Finish” once import wizard finish importing your messages.

For all Microsoft mail client, such as Outlook2000/2003/2007 and so on, all got a folder to stored the database of the messages. Only the location and the setting is slightly different only.
