Streamyx IP
For those who using dynamic Streamyx IP, we usually found that 218.xx, 219.xx, and lastly 60.xx and very common IP we can get.
According to Ahyap post , the common 60.xx speed is very slow. While 218.xx not bad and 219.xx super fast.
But surprisingly, i found out that my girlfriend’s house Streamyx IP is different. Her IP is 128.xx.
I tried the speed using local server bandwidth test. And the result….. WOW !!!

Compare to
218.xx IP, result is very big different. 218.xx IP is slower. Therefore, when u notices that u got a 128.xx IP, remember not to turn off your modem… ^^

But when i test the speed through US server, the connection is not so good. Perhaps this is due to the limitation of Streamyx international link.

I think we can conclude that Streamyx international link is still not satisfying…
Anyway, i came across a news that TM is leading a consortium made up of 17 major international telecommunications providers to build the first high-bandwidth optical fibre submarine cable system linking the South East Asia region directly to the United States of America (USA).
The cable system, known as the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), is expected to cost approximately US$500 million (RM1.8 billion).
The 20,000km long AAG cable system is designed to provide a capacity of up to 1.92 Terabits per seconds of data bandwidth. Upon its completion, the system will initially have a capacity of 480 Gigabits per second to meet present and future requirements for telecommunications services.
A quote from CEO, Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar: “While we are present in 13 countries in the region and involved in seven existing major submarine cable consortiums, this initiative is still one of the biggest we have undertaken. It will provide TM with additional 60Gbps of capacity, which will help reduce any future potential congestion we may face.”
Another quote: As the AAG is from a single cable network, not only will it have improvements in lowering latency, it will also simultaneously ramp up the international bandwidth capacity to Malaysia at more competitive costs.”
“This impressive joint-effort will go a long way in increasing broadband uptake in this region, which will in turn increase the overall appeal for global investments and increase the competitiveness of the countries benefiting from direct links to the Asia-America Gateway,”
Hopefully this cable will be available on time which is on December 2008.
