4th Generation of Centrino

Intel finally launched the 4th generation of Intel Centrino Platform - Santa Rosa. Is support latest Merom processor and using 65nm process. On first quarter next year, they will come out Santa Rosa Refresh which support Penryn processor and using 45nm process.

As we can see, 4th generation Centrino uses new chipset ~ 965GM/PM + ICH8M, new wireless module ~ Pro wireless 4965 which can support 802.11n, and a new IGP ~ GMAx3100. Both L2 cache and FSB are slightly increased to 4M/6M and 800Mhz.

The X3100 supports some very high-end features like hardware transfer and lighting, vertex and pixel Shader Model 3.0, and 32-bit floating-point operations.

There is no doubt that Intel is step ahead of the laptop market compare to AMD. Hopefully AMD can come out some new platform…
