I found that a lots of users not sure what kind of licensing type on their OS, such as Window XP. Therefore i briefly explain how many types of licensing available for Window XP.

Generally it can be divided into OEM licenses, Retail licenses & Volume Licensing.

OEM licenses:

- Pre-installed on new machine

- Available via system builders & major OEMs.

- Limitations: can be sold to new machine or new machine components such as laptop/notebook.

- Software cannot be transfered to other machines

- License agreement is between customer & OEM

For example Window XP home edition for just RM300++

Retail licenses:

-    FPP ( Full Package Product )

-    Broad available from retail & business resellers

-    No license tracking, customer must retain EULA as legal proff of purchase.

Volume Licensing: 

-    Open license, Select & Enterprise Agreement

-    Open license available from any resellers

-     Select & EA available from Authorized ESAs only

-    License agreement is between customer & Microsoft

-    Electronic license tracking
